1. Fill new boards with popular pins:

Pinterest hack number one is filling the new boards with popular pins from other sites. When you have a completely new account and start creating boards for it, what is the best way to go about them? Should you start saving your own relevant pins to these boards right away? Nope! Here is my first Pinterest hack for this, before you save any of your own pins to the boards, make sure to save at least 20 or 30 popular pins from other sites. Move on to the next Pinterest hack of 7 Top tricks to get traffic from Pinterest.

2. Enable rich pins:

So, Pinterest hack number two is enable Rich Pins. And if you haven’t heard about these you probably are new to Pinterest marketing. Enable Rich Pins ASAP because, they help you get better rankings in Pinterest search results, so, you get more likes, more pins and traffic to your site. Why do Rich Pins work so great well? To make it simple, Rich pins add more content from your site associated with the image. And the easiest way to enable rich pins is using Yoast SEO plugin.

3. Generate click throughs with images:

Now, Pinterest hack number three is create images that stand out and generate click-throughs! Also, never miss an opportunity to add a call to action to your pin. Invite users to make a click with graphic elements on your pin.

 4. Publish pins from other bloggers:

Remember the 80 to 20 rule? Forget about it! This is a standard recommendation of many Pinterest gurus: publish about 80% of pins from other bloggers and only about 20% of your own pins if you don’t want to look spammy. Well, guys… someone invented this rule and after it was republished 20, 100 or 200 times, in various sources, we just all believed it! But Pinterest never said this. It is true that Pinterest values you as a Content Creator, and Content Curator. So, as a Content Curator, you can of course, add some pins from other sites. But you don’t need to waste 80% of all your time saving third-party pins. Pinterest representatives made it clear that business accounts which are linked to verified websites should make content creation their priority. So, if you really want me to give you a number,

80% of your own pins should be the right ratio. And it doesn’t mean that you’re being spammy on Pinterest if you save mostly pins from your own site. It actually means that you are a great content Creator who can produce a lot of quality images for the platform. But I need to make a note here. If you’re just a beginner and your site doesn’t have a great variety of content, re-pinning the same 10 or 15 images or pages in a loop will look very spammy. Plus, with a new Pinterest account, you will also need to build a lot of new boards.

Remember that first hack I showed you today in the 7 Top tricks to get traffic from Pinterest. It was about saving popular pins from other sites to your new boards. So, with a new Pinterest account you will definitely have to save a lot of third-party pins and the share of your own pins will hardly reach the 80% which I mentioned. But as your account grows and as you have more content to save on Pinterest, probably you will start slowly increasing the number of pins linked to your site.

5. Ask users to save pins to relevant board:

Ask users to save your pins to a relevant board. Try your best to help users to save your pins to the boards that will actually help your pins rank higher. I use a simple little trick for this on every blog post. Before the main image on the page, I will add a line of text asking users to save the pin to a specific board. I will even suggest the board title. And I know that most of the times when a user is saving a pin and doesn’t have any board relevant to this pin, and also doesn’t have time to think about a good board. What happens is the usually users will save it with some completely random board name. Which is not the destiny you want for your pins, right? You want them to be saved to a relevant board so they can start ranking on Pinterest for the keyword you’re targeting. So, what you have to do is just suggest the board title and many users will find it a good idea to create a new board with the same title that you’ve suggested. It doesn’t take much time to add this line of text before your pin but it helps with Pinterest SEO immensely.

6. Add pre-filled Pin descriptions on your site:

So, Pinterest hack number six is to add pre-filled pin descriptions on your site. Do you know when pins get really viral? It’s when a lot of people save images from your site to relevant boards with relevant keywords in the pin description. These pins, created by other users, are called original pins. They are different from repins, also called Saves. Because, they were not just re-shared inside the Pinterest platform. These were the pins created by someone who visited your site and for Pinterest it’s an indicator that people really like to share your content. The only problem with these Original pins is that normally users wouldn’t bother adding a keyword—rich description when they’re saving images from your site. If I put myself in the shoes of a regular user, I think I wouldn’t bother about pin descriptions either because when I’m just saving something to my personal board especially if I’m doing it on a mobile device, I don’t have the time to add some keywords to my pin description I just saved it to whatever board comes to my mind and forget about it and this is what happens when a user clicks on save button while being on your web page by default Pinterest may suggest the post title as a pin description so, you will have just a short description and no hashtags in it but ideally you want to have a much longer description because, Pinterest allows you up to 500 characters. And you want to include lots of related keywords, and you want to add hashtags to your pin description. So, how do we solve this problem? You can set Pinterest explicit depictions for all pictures on your page. This is another step to make sure users save it with relevant keywords and your pins can start ranking. Pinterest-specific descriptions need to be added by data-pin-description attribute to all of your images but if you don’t want to do this manually you can add a pin description using Social Pug plugin. So, if you set the pin description here under the post, then plugin will automatically apply the same description to all the images you have in the content of your page.

7. Stay updated for new trends and seasons:

Pinterest hack number 7: Take advantage of trends and seasons! Your Pinterest traffic is highly related to seasons, to holidays, public events and trends. This means that you can grow your traffic by following these trends and planning your content ahead of time. But you need to post your content a little bit in advance so by that time your pins are already is getting attraction and some repins. By the way, it’s quite easy to see the search trends on Pinterest. First, the platform sends you emails with the trends about 2 or 3 times a month. If you didn’t disable all the notifications from Pinterest, you just need to search in your inbox for “pibot search trends”. Because, all similar emails come from Pinterest email pinbot@explore.pinterest.com. Valentine’s Day decor, easy dinner recipes or another email about San Patrick’s Day crafts and decorations. They even show you how many searches were made this week only and in email for example look at the date when I receive on 5th of November and it’s almost two months before Christmas and look at the holiday trends – they are all about Christmas tree ideas, Christmas Tree ideas got 45,000 searches just in one week on Pinterest. Christmas decor DIY got 121,000 searches. So, if you’re receiving this in November obviously you need to start working hard towards creating more content about a Christmas. Because, you see that already in November people are searching for Christmas-related content.
